SHIP'S ORGANIZATION

The ship is divided up into eight departments: COMMAND, ENGINEERING, SECURITY, OPERATIONS, COMMUNICATIONS, SCIENCES, MEDICAL and STARFLEET MARINES.

COMMAND

Deck One is the throne room of the ship. The person sitting in the Center Seat has absolute power over every being on the ship. This person is the Captain. Though the Captain may hold a Flag rank, when in command of the ship the CO is always addressed as "Captain."

Command personnel are the line officers, that is, they are in the direct chain of command from Commanding Officer to the Department Heads. The Line Officers on the U.S.S. Sol are the Commanding officer (C.O.), the Executive Officer (X.O.), the Second Officer, the Chief of Communications, the Chief of Engineering, the Chief Medical Officer, the Chief of Science, and the Chief of Security.

The Officer In Charge (OIC) of the Marine Strike Group commands only the Marines stationed on the ship. Unless there is a shipwide disaster that eliminates or disables all the line officers, the OIC would not normally take command of the ship.

ENGINEERING

Welcome, gentlebeings, to the heart of the Sol: her engine room. The still is on the right, the head is on the left, and the Chief Engineer is right in front of you so start groveling.

Engineering is a fascinating career…..if you're into martyring yourself on the altar of MORE POWER. Due to a regular exodus of a large number of our officers to padded rooms on Tantalus Five, we are always in need of more slaves..er..recruits. The following is a brief list of the positions available in Engineering:

DILITHIUM SPECIALIST: monitors the condition of the dilithium crystal, which channels the ship's power.

ENERGIZING SPECIALIST: monitors the warp core output, making sure there is no drain or drop off in the energy flow

MATTER/ANTIMATTER SPECIALIST: monitors the touchy matter/antimatter engines, the source of the ship's power

TRANSPORTER OFFICER: Transports people and cargo between the ship and planetary surfaces

ENGINEERING OFFICER: Jack/Jill of all trades. Sometimes supervises other specialists

Engineering needs recruits good in math and with mechanical and technical skills.
