421st Marine Strike Group

The Northern Shield
(The Frozen Few)

Motto: "To Strive, To Seek, To Find, and Not to Yield!"
Our Mission: To Defend the Northern Reaches of the Galaxy.

The name "The Northern Shield" honors Alaska's Military Personnel who man the USA's northernmost outposts of defense.  Our motto is from the poem Ulysses written by Lord Alfred Tennyson.  To us it represents the main duties of SpecOps, to to Strive to build indigenous forces, To Seek information, to Find and retrieve hostages,  and Not to Yield our ships or ourselves to our enemies.

The 421st MSG is the U.S.S. Sol's first line of defense from outside forces.  In First Contact situations, the 421st acts as an intelligence gathering unit, to determine the safety of landfall for the landing party.  In combat situations, the 421st must secure disputed areas, retrieve hostages, or take back a Federation Vessel captured by the enemy.  

As on 20th Century Naval ships, the 421st MSG commands its own deck of the ship and a portion of the main shuttlebay for its drop ship, mech units, and ordinance.  Access to these sensitive areas of the ship are restricted to the Marines and  Senior Officers of the Sol who have SFMC training.

To be an "official" Starfleet Marine, the candidate must be a member of Starfleet, International.  The Marine is then entitled to take classes at the Marine Academy, become a SFMC officer, hold positions of authority in the Corps, and earn military-style ribbons. 

The U.S.S. Sol also recruits "unofficial" (non-Starfleet) Marines. These Marines may earn rank through the ship's point system.

OMEGA TEAM IS ON RESERVE

We execute missions that Starfleet doesn't need to know about.  Even the SFMC, to whom we are attached, does not acknowledge our existence.  The Omega Team is operated by "Civilian Reservists" (agents) who retain their Starfleet ranks and identities, but operate undercover when a threat to Starfleet security appears.

Our operatives have special talents, mostly of the sinister kind, co-opted from all species. We use personal cloaking devices, small hand weapons, and other devices not approved for general Starfleet issue. We are trained in exotic Martial Arts, Mental Powers, and Mind Control techniques, as well as SFMC procedures for Hostage and Team Retrieval, Ship Seizure, and Reconnaissance,  Prospective operatives should send an encoded message to the  OIC.
