Gul. Key member and Interrogator in Military Intelligence. Cardassian officer who engineered Picard's capture at Celtris III and then tortured him in 2369. He was a highly intelligent man, but befitting his job, he was also brutal and cunning. Madred grew up as an impoverished child in the streets of Lakat, and came to endorse the Cardassian military establishment because he believed in its power to prevent such social maladies. He had a daughter, Jil Orra, and routinely allowed her to visit him during his work. Despite his best efforts, he was not able to successfully break Picard's will - although Jean-Luc later admitted he came perilously close. TNG: Chain of Command, Part 1 and 2, A Stitch in Time
