Rihannsu Numbering System

THIS NUMBERING SYSTEM WAS POSTED ON THE INSTITUTE OF RA'THLEIHFI, DEPARTMENT OF XENOSOCIOLOGY WEB SITE.  IT USES THE LANGUAGE PROJECT DEFINITIONS FROM THE DICTIONARY ON THIS SITE.

EXAMPLES OF NUMBERS

dhei 1000
krha'sei dhei rha'hwi 23,051
sehu-fvha'lli 367
mnhu-mnha'kre 442
rhu-mnha'sei 543
fvhu-lha'lli 697
lli-dhei mnhu-rha 7,450
thhu-thha'the 888

In general, numbers smaller than 1000 (dhei) are written from large to small segments (as in Federation Standard)
example: mnhu-mnha'kre - 442

Numbers larger than 1000 (dhei) are written in chunks (as in Federation standard)

example: sei-dhei mnhu-rha'sei kre-dhei khru-dha dhei
One-billion four-hundred-fifty-three million two-hundred-ten thousand

POWERS OF 1000 (dhei) are indicated by a numerical prefix:

One million = kre-dhei (lit. 1000, power 2)
One billion = sei-dhei (lit. 1000, power 3)
One septillion = the-dhei (lit. 1000, power 4)
One quadrillion = rhi-dhei (lit. 1000, power 5)
dhei-dhei is the largest Rihannsu number

FRACTIONS: are written thus: denominator erh'numerator:  kre erh'hwi (one third)

DECIMAL FRACTIONS: errah = point

The numbers before the point are written normally.
The numbers after the point are written separately:

example: 12.15119 - twelve point one five one one nine - (dha'kre errah hwi rhi hwi hwi lhi))

TIME

minute(s) siure(n) equal to 50.5 Federation seconds
hour dierha 5050 Federation seconds

day eisae 25.25. Federation hours (18 dierhar)
week dhaei lit. ten-day
month khaidoa 47.5 Federation days
year fvheisn 380 eisaein

twenty-three (23) - til-hn'sie The Rihannsu number system is based on the first ten numbers. Any number past ten is a combination of these numbers. Starting with the number twenty, the suffix "-hn" is added. For example, the number "til" (2) combined with the suffix "-hn" makes "til-hn", the Rihannsu number for twenty. The same process is used for hundreds, using the suffix "-ptil" (p concatenated with til, representing two zeros). Past the hundreds, the system is more complex. The apparent suffix this time represents the place value. Using this number system, there is a Rihannsu number for every standard English number.
thirty (30) - sie-hn
forty (40) - sev-hn
fifty (50) - ko-hn
sixty (60) - kil-hn
seventy (70) - yo-hn
eighty (80) - yil-hn

Units of Measurement

ewa "second" (4.2 Terran seconds)
siuren "minute" (12 ewa/ 50.5 seconds)
kevn "period" (12 surien/ 10.1 minutes)
tarim "hour" (12 kevn/ 121.2 minutes)
tel "day" (12 tarim/ 24.24 hours)

Ordinal Numbers

If you want to form the word "first" or "second" or "eighth," take the number one, two, or eight, and add "-hh" to the end:

first: tie-hh
second: til-hh
eighth: yil-hh
